Notes on Painting Rain

Rain cannot be painted directly. What can be painted is everything rain changes: the temperature of a wall, the weight of a curtain, the particular grey that arrives ten minutes before the first drop.

Working wet

The monsoon paintings are made wet into wet, which means each session has a hard ending. When the surface stops accepting paint, the day is over, regardless of what I intended.

This has taught me more about patience than any amount of drawing.
